This painting refers to the profound and natural weakness of human beings. There is an analogy between the bitten apple, held in the left hand, representing sin or bad deeds. The tree on the right is an apple tree, representing temptation. Finally, the apples crunched and thrown on the ground represent repentance and regret. All this symbolises a vicious circle that we repeat over and over again, from which we must escape.
