An-Nahit, Les Pleurs invisibles

This painting is a pictorial representation of the Arabic term ‘An-Nahit’ (النَّحِيطُ) denoting cries that do not come out and accumulate in the heart. Through the silhouette, in the centre, filled with the rough sea, we can imagine a man overcome with suffering and grief. His interior contrasts perfectly with the peaceful setting around him. It shows that despite his desire to blend into the background, his pain is too intense to succeed.
